Lectures on Vergina

Today we had two fascinating skype sessions about the archaeological site of Vergina. The first lecture by Professor Chrissoula Paliadeli offered us a summary of the main findings and the historical importance of the site, while also pointing out to the particular history of archaeological research on the site. The second lecture, titled “Managing the Border Between the Urban Web and the Archeological Site in Vergina ” by Mrs Kleopatra Paliadeli was based on the presenter’s postgraduate work on devising new ways to “open” the site to the local community. Our students were introduced to the idea of a fence-less archaeological site that would be available to walk through by means of dedicated paths, and which would be surrounded by thematic areas aiming at making the most of the educational, recreational and cultural value of Vergina.
